Amino AcidApothecary

An old-world library of amino acid research

Step past the candlelight and into the stacks, where leather-bound volumes, glass jars and bundles of dried herbs keep quiet company with the chemistry of the building blocks of life.

Corked glass jars with blank parchment tags, amber bottles, a stone mortar and pestle, dried lavender and sage, and an open old book beside a brass candlestick

Welcome to the Stacks

Amino Acid Apothecary is a small, carefully kept collection of research compounds for qualified researchers, laboratories, and institutions, presented in the spirit of an old library: unhurried, orderly, and personal.

Every jar on our cabinet is catalogued strictly for laboratory research. Our promise is simple: careful handling, clear correspondence, and a real person on the other side of every message.

Sit down and partake in the ancient wisdom encoded within the building blocks of life.

Folio II · The Library

The Building Blocks of Life

Three pages from the old volumes, for anyone curious about the chemistry beneath it all.

Page the First

Amino Acids

Amino acids are small organic molecules, each carrying an amino group, a carboxyl group, and a distinctive side chain. Twenty standard amino acids are encoded by the genetic code and serve as the building blocks of proteins.

Page the Second

The Peptide Bond

When the carboxyl group of one amino acid joins the amino group of another, a covalent amide bond forms and a molecule of water is released. Repeat the joining, and a chain begins to grow, link by link.

Page the Third

Chains & Proteins

Short chains of amino acids, generally up to around fifty residues, are called peptides. Longer chains that fold into intricate shapes are proteins. The order of the links, the sequence, shapes each molecule’s chemistry.

Folio III · The Cabinet

The Apothecary Cabinet

Fourteen labeled jars, each catalogued strictly for laboratory study. The jars themselves are simply for display.

Research use only. Not for use in humans.
